Envision your honeymoon. You and your new spouse have planned a beautiful cruise through the South Pacific Islands. Unfortunately, neither of you realised that you should be vaccinated for the diseases that are common in that corner of the world. One of you falls ill and you must cut the trip short to get treatment. Fortunately, this scenario is entirely avoidable if you both plan to get your travel vaccinations before you leave.

Trips out of the country are expensive, and you want to be sure you get the most out of it. It is essential to get all of your travel medicine & vaccinations before you go to ensure you won’t catch any preventable diseases that can quickly ruin your trip. Tetanus, Typhoid, Cholera, Hepatitis A and B, Rabies, Japanese Encephalitis, Polio, and Malaria are still common in many parts of the world, and all are entirely preventable. Visit our travel doctors at Pier Street Medical and we will be able to tell you exactly which vaccinations you need for the part of the world you will be visiting. Even if you’ve been vaccinated in the past, you could be due for a booster, or there could be a new method of vaccination out there that will be more effective for you since the last vaccination you received.

Mosquito-malariaIt is very important not to wait until the last minute to receive your vaccination, because some – like the Hepatitis vaccinations – require a course of two shots given six months apart. Others, like the Malaria and Typhoid vaccinations can be given through oral medication and your pharmacy may need time to get the medication in stock.

Yellow fever in particular is an extremely important vaccination to receive before travelling to other countries. Some countries require certification before you enter the country, and the last thing you want to do on your holiday is sit in an airport because you haven’t been properly vaccinated. When you visit Pier Street Medical’s vaccination clinic, be sure to get your yellow fever vaccination certification so you can get into the country you are visiting.

If you are ill after travelling away from Perth, it’s not too late to treat the issue. Even if you are properly vaccinated, it is still common for one to catch an illness on an airplane. Fortunately, these types of illnesses are easily treatable with medications. Pier Street Medical can provide prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications that can help ease your symptoms while you heal. However, we still recommend you prevent more serious issues by receiving your travel vaccinations in Perth before you leave. It will be one less thing for you to worry about while you are enjoying yourself on holiday.

Each international trip is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for adventure, so it is important to vaccinate yourself ahead of time to ensure it will be the best experience possible. Don’t let a lack of planning ruin your holiday. Visit our clinic in Perth for your travel medication needs & to find out how we can help make your travels a success.
